Steve Kornacki Announces Leave From MSNBC To Join NBC News
The 45-year-old news broadcaster has signed on with NBC as MSNBC has planned to split from its parent company NBCUniversal. The messy breakup has left a lot of fallout and reshuffling, and Kornacki has chosen to side with NBC News.
According to the Daily Mail, Kornacki will focus his efforts on shows like Today, Meet the Press, and NBC Nightly News. He also plans to join NBC Sports as chief data analyst, as per USA Today. On top of that, the journalist will help out with NBC News Now, the network's streaming channel.
Kornacki has garnered his own popularity ever since he covered the 2020 presidential election. Sticking with NBC News will surely see him continue his balanced political coverage favored by both republicans and democrats.
With MSNBC still figuring out its new name as an independent company, Kornacki likely made this choice for stability reasons. The network's ratings have been tanking, especially since they got rid of the outspoken Joy Reid.
On the flip side, NBC News has lost its fair share of popular broadcasters. Lester Holt stepped down from NBC Nightly News after anchoring for the show for nearly 15 years. Perhaps Kornacki will fill Holt's shoes after the dust settles.
Not only that, but Hoda Kotb of the Today show also decided to depart from broadcasting after 26 years. There are a lot of empty spaces for Kornacki to fill with NBC News losing some of its top journalists.
At the moment, the political journalist has been working for both MSNBC and NBC News. He joined MSNBC in 2012, then in 2017 he became the national political correspondent for NBC News. It must've been a tough choice between both networks that have hopefully served him well.
It'll be interesting to see how everything shakes up after MSNBC finalizes its leave from NBCUniversal. Hopefully, Americans will still get to watch Kornacki tackle the future presidential election races.
