Eric Church Shares That He Was Proud Of Morgan Wallen After The Chair Incident

Eric Church has shared what Morgan Wallen did immediately after he threw a chair from Church's Nashville bar's roof. And it turns out the Chief is proud of how far Wallen's come.

For a while now, Eric Church has been Morgan Wallen's mentor of sorts. Kinda like what Kenny Chesney is to Megan Moroney (although I don't think the Chief has snuck a sauna into Wallen's home, unlike Chesney).

In a new interview with the Los Angeles Times, Eric Church opens up about how he thinks Morgan Wallen dealt with the chair incident. And honestly, Church thinks he handled it well.

"Morgan called me from the street after it happened. I was watching college basketball, and he said, 'Hey, this just happened.' I said, 'Uh-oh,'" Church paraphrased. He knew the event was going to be huge.

"I knew it was gonna be noisy, and it was — it was damn noisy," he remembered. "The next day on Fox News, the No. 1 story was Morgan throwing a chair, and No. 2 was Israel and Gaza. But you just kind of roll with it."

Eric Church Thinks The Chair Incident Was A Positive Thing For Wallen

No, not because he almost hit two officers. But because of the positive emotional growth and maturity it encouraged from him.

"It was actually a good thing for Mo. I think that was a line for him, and he's done really well since then — it was a thing he's reacted positively to as a person," he sagely said.

Right after the incident, Church said that Wallen apologized immediately to the staff there. "He went down [to Chief's] and apologized to the staff, shook everybody's hand. I was proud of him."

As much as Eric Church thinks the chair incident was good for Wallen's growth, it hasn't stopped him from making light of the situation. His bar has done all manner of gags to rib Wallen.

Most recently, Chief's came out with a new drink called "The Chair." It has a mini chair atop the drink for decor, although it also doubles as a phone stand, apparently.
