Reba McEntire is speaking out about the loss of Brandon Blackstock. Brandon is the son Reba's ex-husband, Narvel Blackstock, making him her former stepson. But to Reba, she was just part of her family.
"Last week, my stepson/oldest son Brandon Blackstock went home to be with God," Reba shares on social media. "His struggle is over and he is in eternal peace in God's presence. There is no one else like him, and I'm thankful for the time we had together. His legacy and laughter will be carried on through his family. Rest in peace cowboy. Happy trails to you til we meet again."
Brandon was previously married to Kelly Clarkson. Neither Reba's nor Kelly's divorce did little to change her affection for Brandon.
"Brandon's been my son forever it seems," McEntire tells Entertainment Tonight in a 2021 interview.. "Although he's my stepson, I still love him like he's my total -- my blood."
What To Know About Brandon Blackstock
Brandon passed away from melanoma on August 7. In a statement, his family reveals that he had been ill for a few years.
"It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away," the statement reads. "Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family's privacy during this very difficult time."
Brandon had three children from his first marriage, and two children with Kelly. Kelly postponed dates on her Studio Session residency in Las Vegas to be with their son and daughter.
"Unfortunately, I need to postpone the remainder of the August Studio Session dates in Las Vegas," Kelly writes, ahead of the news of his passing. "While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children's father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them."
One of Brandon's children, his oldest son Seth, also gave his father a touching tribute.
"I lost my hero yesterday," he writes. "Words can't describe how proud I am of you for raising me and your three other kids. You were a father, a son, a brother, and most importantly, my best friend. You'll have to watch me grow up from a birds-eye view, but that's ok with me."
