Alright everyone, we can wrap it up. We have found the country song. You know, the definitive song that'll be crowned the country song of the year, decade, century, whatever. I didn't know the arts were a competition, but we've just found the winner.
Videos by Wide Open Country
A songwriter from Texas has released the best country song out there, called "Drink A Beer." And the kicker? All he initially sought to do was mock the genre.
Mitchell Ferguson uploaded a skit to his socials in early December last year. "This is legitimately how most pop country songs are born," he captioned the video as he made a mock country song. It's a hilarious video and surprisingly accurate. I'm sure I've heard that exact some somewhere else before...
Well, the internet loved his joke, especially the tag line, "drink a beer," and he immediately got to work making a legitimate pop country song out of it.
At long last, after these past couple of months, Ferguson has released "Drink A Beer," and it genuinely slaps. It's a brilliant song that, when you look past the humorous origins, is a genuinely decent country track.
It's on Spotify now, and something tells me that "Drink A Beer" has big things in it's future. I mean, it's worked for Morgan Wallen, right?
Country Fans React To Hilariously Good Country Song
The comments have been the best part of this whole journey. Apart from getting a genuinely good country song, of course.
"This is unfortunately fire," one said about the original skit.
"What Morgan Wallen song is this," riffed another.
"If Morgan wallen dropped this it would be a #1 hit," another joked.
"Spot on," wrote Randy Houser, also under the original skit.
Some fans are genuinely proud of the musician and how far he's come now that the song has been released.
"A freaking actual banger. Love it. Is there anything you can't do? So proud of ya," one wrote.
"From ironic joke post, to lyrical experiment, to talks of record deals, to live recording crowd vocals, to a full on music video... I'm so glad I got to witness this journey, man," writes another.
"Love how this evolved from a joke into the hit it is! This ear worm isn't leaving my head anytime soon," another commented.
I genuinely find the song enjoyable, and have had it on repeat while writing this.
