Money and fame isn't all it's cracked up to be. Just ask Zach Top. Top, who is enjoying his third hit single with "Good Times & Tan Lines," has been the talk of country music since his freshman Cold Beer & Country Music record was released last year. Lauded by many artists, including Alan Jackson and Dierks Bentley, for bringing back traditional-sounding country music, Top admits his meteoric rise to stardom comes at a price.

"Most of the time, I couldn't be happier getting to do what I do every day," Top tells the NY Times (via Country Now). "It brought a lot more complication to whatever it is. Money or, all of a sudden, women wanting you. It brings a lot more complication. And so, I don't know, I think that raises some more questions about just what exactly am I doing all this for, other than my love of the music."
"Every now and then it takes a while to fall asleep," he adds. "And you start thinking about, [what] the hell am I doing?"
Zach Top Opens Up About His Painful Divorce
Top doesn't talk much about his former marriage. He was previously married to a woman named Kinzi, whom he met in college. The two got married in 2020, splitting in 2024, just as his career was beginning to take off.
"I [messed] some big stuff up, made a good mess," Top acknowledges. "I was always just kinda like, yeah, yeah, I know. It happens to everybody."
Top says he was sure it wouldn't happen to him - until it did.
"Sure enough, it snuck right up on me," he adds.
Top has, fortunately, found love again, this time with his current girlfriend, Amelia Taylor. He is also releasing a new album, Ain't In It For My Health, out on August 29th. Problems of fame aside, Top is grateful that his fans are supportive of his own style of music.
"For one thing, I'm honored that people see me as sort of a spearhead or a leader back towards traditional country music," Top tells Billboard. "Or country music the way that I feel in love with it and, you know, still love. It's a fun spot to be in, and I think it's a lot of just the right place at the right time sort of thing."
