Country music is filled with white performers sporting mullets. There's Gavin Adcock, who always seems eager to grab a headline with his antics. His behavior certainly helped him snag the top spot at Country Thunder Arizona next year.

Another mullet-sporting artist, Morgan Wallen, whose bad behavior certainly ruffled some feathers earlier in his career. It led to his ban from the 2021 CMA Awards. But this year, he's already won an award and is nominated for three more: Album of the Year for I'm the Problem, Entertainer of the Year, and Male Vocalist of the Year.
These artists have become emblematic of a certain trend in country music. And while Benjamin Tod didn't mention these artists by name when he took to social media to rant about the state of the genre, one can't help but think that when he brought up "white boys with mullets," he may have been referring to Adcock and Wallen.
Benjamin Tod Goes on a Rant
In a clip captioned "I'M NOT SORRY," Tod, who made his name performing with the Lost Dog Street Band, offered his unfiltered opinion on the direction of country music at the moment.
Dressed in a hunting jacket, his piercing blue eyes hold the viewer's gaze above the words, "GO CRY ABOUT IT."
"There's a freshman class of folks in our community who think that country music is only made by upper-class white boys with mullets who sing about evading domestic abuse charges and DUI charges regularly," says Tod. "And they're not going to take the space and hold it with that."
Tod Isn't Afraid To Get "Pretentious"
He continues, "It's disrespectful, and it's all due to the fact that people don't know country music history. Now, you can call me pretentious or an a**hole for that. That's perfectly fine. It's the equivalent of going up to the captain of an airplane and saying, 'Oh, you think you can fly an airplane better than me.' And him being, 'I would hope so.' And you saying, 'Yeah, pretentious much.'
"Yeah, I'm pretentious about freight trains, 12-valve engines, and country music because I f*****g know the material. Plain and simple. And it's about time that competent, pretentious people in our society stood up and started telling the truth because our society is being ran by a bunch of f*****g morons. And I, for one, am sick and tired of it."
Tod follows up his strong words with a call for those in power to fight artificial intelligence—a concern that feels particularly timely, as the AI-generated "Walk My Walk" has topped the charts.
