The prolific creator of Yellowstone and its numerous spinoffs will be heading to rival studio NBCUniversal with an eight-film deal set to begin next year. This is according to a report by Puck yesterday.
That's not all. When Sheridan's television deal at Paramount expires in 2028, he will develop new shows at NBCUniversal.
Taylor Sheridan Practically Made Paramount+
Though Yellowstone streams on Peacock, the show's popular spinoffs, including 1923 and 1883, have lured fans to Paramount+. Then there are also Sheridan's other creations, including Tulsa King with Sylvester Stallone, Special Ops: Lioness, and Mayor of Kingstown, which is headlined by Jeremy Renner. He also produced the film Finestkind for the streamer.
Another Sheridan-created show includes Landman, starring Billy Bob Thornton. A second season is expected to premiere on the streamer later this year. A spinoff of Tulsa King starring legendary actor Samuel L. Jackson, titled NOLA King, will come out next year.
Sheridan's contributions to the Paramount family aren't limited to its streamer. Blake Shelton teamed up with the writer for CBS's new singing reality show competition, The Road. On the show, contestants compete for an opening spot on Keith Urban's tour.
The network will also be the home for the upcoming Yellowstone spinoff Y: Marshalls. It follows Kayce Dutton's next chapter as a U.S. Marshall. Other upcoming Yellowstone spinoffs include The Madison, starring Kurt Russell and Michelle Pfiefer. Another prequel series, 1944, is also in the works. Plus, a show featuring characters Beth and Rip will feature actress Annette Bening.
What Does This Mean for All the 'Yellowstone' Spinoffs?
Absolutely nothing. Since Sheridan's deal with Paramount doesn't expire until 2028, he'll still be working on all these shows for the time being. Because Paramount owns the rights to both Landman and Yellowstone, as well as its countless spinoffs, the media conglomerate can continue to produce these shows, albeit without Sheridan.
Apparently, the reason for the departure was Paramount's merger with Skydance earlier this year. Rumor has it that the new executives in charge began questioning the high budgets for all of Sheridan's shows, which typically run as high as $20 million per episode.
Sheridan's next action film, titled F.A.S.T., is scheduled to be released by Warner Bros. in 2027.
